American Idol Winner Fantasia Barrino Overdoses Amid Adultery Scandal
Third season AI winner Fantasia Barrino is never too far from the tabloid headlines, whether it's her outrageous attire or bizarrely ghetto-ish antics, one thing is for sure, she has a flair for the dramatic.
Today's Fantasia news comes on the heels of a sex scandal of sorts. According to various reports, Fantasia was named in divorce documents filed this week in her home state of North Carolina.
A woman named Paula Cook accused Fantasia for carrying on an adulterous affair with her husband Antwaun Cook. She alleges the two met each other at a T-Mobile store in the summer of '09 and began what she calls a "covert adulterous affair" with her husband, which led to the estrangement and ultimately, Paula filing for divorce. Mrs. Cook is also claiming that Fantasia and Antwaun made sex tapes detailing "their illicit activity." Somehow I doubt that's how Mrs. Cook put it, but hey, we'll go with that.
Yesterday, the tabloids were flooded with the allegations against Fantasia and the possibility that Mrs. Cook would sue her, as well as, tarnish her good name. Fantasia's rep had this to say about yesterday's news: "Fantasia will weather this storm with the dignity and grace that she has exemplified throughout a life in which she has repeatedly overcome obstacles and challenges. Fantasia's faith in God, herself and family remain as strong as ever."
However, as today is a new day, we have a new development. According to TMZ, Fantasia was hospitalized for an apparent overdose, in what a police report is identifying as a suicide attempt. Fantasia's rep confirmed that she was admitted for a "medication overdose." Recent reports state she's in stable condition, and her rep confirmed that Fantasia ingested the medication after becoming "overwhelmed by the lawsuit and media attention." The drugs in question are said to be sleep aids and aspirin.
So there you have it in a nutshell. Fantasia, perhaps the oddest winner of the world's most popular singing contest continues to bring a bit of the dramatics and excitement to her strange, but illustrious career.
