Pop Singer Lauren Hildebrandt Releases “Bed Bugs” Parody Song and Video
In lieu of a recent bed bug attack, singer Lauren Hildebrandt who rose to fame as a finalist on NBC's "Fame" series with Debbie Allen, has put out a hysterical musical ode to the pesky, blood-thirsty critters, titled “Bed Bugs.”
Lauren Hildebrandt, currently starring in Smokey Joe’s Café at the San Diego Musical Theatre, made national headlines earlier this month. She spoke out about a nasty bed bug attack in an unidentified luxurious NYC hotel. The reality of the situation caused quite a stir and alarm among upscale hotel guests throughout the country.
"People should be aware of the danger in even the luxury NYC hotels right now," Hildebrandt explains. "When I got home, I couldn't sleep at night. It was horrible. I also kept thinking the bed bugs were in my own bed."
After her hotel stay, Hildebrandt experienced excruciating, scratchy bed bug bites across her back and shoulders. The wounds were so bad that she was forced to forego wearing a bikini or strappy shirts this summer. Hildebrandt was applauded by many for being brave enough to speak out about the experience and encourage other frequent travelers to always be on guard – even in the finest of establishments.
Not taking herself too seriously while taking jabs from friends, Hildebrandt is now able to snicker about the traumatic experience. Last week, she and her pals were working in the recording studio, when the jokes started flying. One of her songwriter friends started replacing the words in her Billboard charting club hit “Boyshorts,” from her debut album "Not Really a Waitress," with alternate witty bed bug lyrics. Soon an idea to record the funny “Bed Bugs” song bit them. [Pun intended]
“It was one of those belly-laugh moments, to hear and sing my song ‘Boyshorts,’ with the creep-crawly-critter lyrics replaced,” states Hildebrandt. “So hysterical to us, we just had to actually record it for fun.”
