Our Little Miley Cyrus Is Growing Up, Gets Her First Tattoo
Pictures of teen sensation Miley Cyrus with a tattoo have popped up all over the internet. Big deal right? Except Miley's only 17 and the legal age to get a tattoo is 18, unless of course papa and mama Cyrus signed a permission slip. Lovely.
Of course, it could be one of those temporary tattoos, but considering the placement, right underneath her left breast, and the fact that this is Miley Cyrus we are talking about, so it's probably real.
There's something incredibly sad about how eager and desperate Miley is to be a grown up, and worse, how willing her parents are to have her skip those most important adolescent years. They have enabled her along the way by allowing (and encouraging at times) her to date men who would be considered beyond the legal age limit. They've allowed her to engage in dangerous sexting habits. They've allowed her to take part in sexually-charged photos for public consumption.
It seems that Miley's parents have traded in their role as parent for that of a best friend — best friend with benefits of course. Miley, whose net worth is somewhere around $25 million (according to Forbes) is the main breadwinner in her family and that has to have some impact on the family dynamics. How can her parents possibly enforce any basic ground rules for Miley's behavior, when she holds that kind of power over them. I can imagine the scenario:
Billy Ray: "Miley you can't go out with boys who are older than you."
Miley: "Oh yeah, well how about I stop paying the mortage and have myself emancipated and you and mom can go share a dumpster with a hobo!"
Billy Ray: "Well, when you put it that way Miley, have fun, don't get pregnant!"
Miley: "Don't tell me what to do! I'll get knocked up if I want to."
It's not like Miley's the first teen star to grow up too fast and end up in trouble. We need look no further than Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, her sister Jamie Lynn, the former wild child Drew Barrymore, and just about half of Hollywood's young and famous to see multiple examples of shoddy parents who trade their kids fame and money for a dangerously permissive lifestyle.
Sure it's just a stupid tattoo, but that's where it STARTS! (spoken like a mom during a coffee-fueled rant)
