Entourage Recap: Free Ari!
The first 3 weeks of Entourage have been difficult to watch. I was involved in a conversation on Google+ recently where one user said that Entourage “felt like required reading for a class.” Couldn't agree more with that sentiment.
This week’s episode revolved around the aftermath of the Carl Ertz suicide. Mainly, the issue was Vince passing a drug test after he had smoked some weed a few days earlier. Vince’s arrives at the precinct to give his statement. After giving a statement to the police, Vince and Eric drive off in Eric’s car to do some bad acting.
While in Eric’s car, Vince reveals that he smoked some weed. Vince pays a visit to Billy Walsh to help him pass the inevitable drug test. Walsh’s plan consists of faking the drug test using a prosthetic piece of “equipment” for Vince to use instead of his own.
Given that it was a Vince heavy episode, our other guys didn't get a lot of run this week. Turtle got to express how shaken up he was after seeing the aftermath of the suicide. He had very few lines and didn’t get in the way at all. It seems as though Doug Ellin finally figured out how to utilize the “talents” of Jerry Ferrara. Drama's main contribution this week was revealing he used steroids in an attempt to make the high school wrestling team.
On the other hand, we did spend a lot of time with Ari this week, but it definitely wasn’t quality time. The episode started with Ari and Dana Gordon enjoying some pillow talk after the late night rendezvous. He spent the rest of the time running back and forth between the Vince disaster and dealing with his increasingly unreasonable wife. The fact that his wife would rather berate him at every turn while dating other men than divorce him either means she still cares for Ari or she is a sociopath. Only time will tell on that one. In the meantime, Ari did find some time to take Dana Gordon out on a date to Bobby Flay’s restaurant. Not surprisingly, Dana is upset that Ari has used her and storms out of the restaurant. After getting berated by Dana Gordon, Ari’s wife calls him to berate him some more. I know Jeremy Piven has gone on record as saying he enjoyed the direction his character went this season, but I can ensure him he is the only who feels that way.
