Bryant Gumbel Reveals Lung Cancer Surgery on Regis and Kelly
While filling in as host for Regis Philbin on the Regis and Kelly show, newscaster Bryant Gumbel revealed he had a malignant tumor on his lung removed last month.
The 61-year old Real Sports host and former Today show host didn't seem to be planning on making the announcement, but did so after being pestered by co-host Kelly Ripa to dance — and declining to do so. Some people just can't take no for an answer!
Gumbel seemed optimistic about his prognosis, and was upbeat, despite keeping the surgery mostly a secret:
"We had told a few people, we told my family, obviously. I even kept it from my staff at Real Sports. So I'm okay for the time being. I'm hoping they greenlight me to play golf again."We wish him a speedy recovery. Click here to watch video of the conversation.
