Network Solutions, the hosting provider for millions of Web sites, suffered a malware attack that caused it to take down one of its popular blogs on Monday.

Visitors to the Grow Smart Business blog saw a nearly blank page with a message: "GrowSmartBusiness is temporarily down for maintenance. We apologize for the inconvenience and will be back shortly."

The problem apparently occurred within a widget housed on the blog, according to a post on its corporate blog.

"Our Security Team was alerted this past weekend to a malicious code that was added to a widget housed on our small business blog, growsmartbusiness.com. This widget was used to provide small business tips on Network Solutions’ under construction pages," the post read.

Site owners who have installed the widgets on their own sites were instructed to delete it entirely and scan the site for any malware.

The security alert, however, didn't say precisely what nefarious business could be caused by the widget, nor did it say when exactly the Grow Smart Business site would be back up and running again.

Readers were pointed to the StopBadware.org site for more information.
