Do what you do best

Some say “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. It’s true, especially for the one being imitated. But what does it say about the capabilities of the one doing the imitating?

Too many solo service professionals go down the route of imitating the style of a more successful model. But what they don’t realize is that this person probably did more than just imitate someone to get where he’s at. Realize your strengths and weaknesses. That is the trick to attracting high-quality clients.

If you’ve got a knack for speaking in public then go ahead and arrange meet-ups through your website. If writing’s more your forte, put it to good use by writing quality newsletters to send subscribers on a regular basis.

Know your best clients

You need to be aware how to best reach your clients so you could offer them services relative to their needs. Your competition is doing the exact same thing.

Who are your three best clients? From here on out, make sure all your marketing approaches are dead set at attracting those kinds of clients. You can’t please everybody, but you can at least dominate a particular market niche, given you’re aware who your best clients are and know how to speak their language.

Sometimes it’s best to go back and review the basics. If you watch Grey’s Anatomy, you know the weight of that statement, and the wonders it can do for your career in the long term. Sometimes the simplest things are the best solutions to your greatest problems.
