Oh, you already knew that. Good. But wait, there is more. Safe stress is not about getting away from the office, from high workloads and even all-nighters to finish a project. It is not about studying for exams, being in the Olympics, or wondering about good performance reviews.

Stress comes from repeating patterns of behavior that have kept you on the gerbil wheel of life; patterns that cause disappointment and disapproval. Like you keep picking the same type of bully boss or you keep finding jobs that compromise your ethics. Now, that’s where the stress goes way up.

If you have never seen the movie “Groundhog Day” order a copy right now. And if you have seen it, pull it out of the archives and watch it before the next full moon. You will see what happens when stress is high because you have not tackled your old, ingrained behavior patterns into submission. High stress means crabby you, I mean really crabby you!

And if you were in the victim, martyr, avoider, or denier category of pattern replay, the ones that make the stress hormones sit up and take notice, you can learn the way OUT, to Observe, Understand and Transform your behavior to the healthy opposite where safe stress resides.

You can also go to www.sylvialafair.com and take the pattern aware test to find out which primary patterns keep you stuck and stay tuned in for more tips and exercises to get you in the zone. In the meantime, keep breathing!
