Facebook Uses Twitter to Alert Followers their Site is Unavailable

Ironically, Facebook alerted their 375,000 followers that Facebook was slow or unavailable today. The Facebook.com site was unavailable for the second day in a row today. I confirmed that Facebook was indeed down with a Service Unavailable-DNS error at 4:45PM Eastern DST. Top trending topics on the Twitter homepage related to Facebook include The DNS failure, Facebook Isnt Working, Service Unavailable, and Mark Zuckerberg. The cause of the failure is not known.
Between regular overcapacity messages from Twitter and service unavailable messages from Facebook, both Twitter and Facebook are experiencing growing pains. While both companies are expanding, one interesting contrast emerges: Facebook needs Twitter to micro-message their followers with updates and news, but Twitter does not have a Facebook page.
